Part-Time C-130 Pilot (USN Reserve)

VR-53 (Fleet Logistics Squadron Five Three) – Posted by Kman130 Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, United States

Job Description

Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 53 (VR-53) within the USN’s FLSW (Fleet Logistics Support Wing)  is hiring part-time (traditional reservist) C-130 pilots based at JB Andrews NAF, MD (D.C. Area).  We will be holding a pilot selection board on 19 November, with packages due approximately 19 October.  To apply, please visit http://www.public.navy.mil/navres/cflsw/Pages/PilotSelectionBoard.aspx or contact Mr. Patrick Jackson at 817-782-6550 for application specific questions.

Our squadron is located at Hangar 13 at JB Andrews, MD.  The job requires great availability and flexibility in order to maintain currency and proficiency within the C-130 and meet a  100 flight hour (minimum) requirement per FY.  Additionally, we ask our reservists to commit to at least one detachment per FY lasting about 2 weeks in one of three theaters (Atsugi AB, Japan, Manama, Bahrain or Sigonella AB, Sicily) in addition to providing availability for various missions throughout the year.

Our ideal candidate is a qualified Naval aviator with worldwide experience in a major weapons system who can easily commute to the DC area or lives locally.  Other service veterans will only be considered with significant/current C-130 qualifications and who are local to the DC region.

Other requirements:

-Must be a graduate of a military flight training program

*For full disclosure, this is a Reserve squadron, but it’s not in the traditional sense. The expectation of commitment goes beyond the typical one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer. Our schedule for each Reservist varies throughout the year and there is a minimum flight hour requirement (100 hrs/FY). Most of the pilots have second jobs with the airlines, as it is not intended to be full time employment.

Further, there is an expectation for the following commitment:
1. 2 x 3-week detachments per year or 1 x 4 week detachment
2. 3 week initial training and 1 week refresher training per year in Fort Worth, TX
3. 6 days of availability per month (this doesn’t mean you will fly, but more or less a target of availability)
4. Typical 1 weekend per month (usually 3-4 mandatory weekends per year; non-mandatory weekends are flexible)

Prerequisites to be competitive:
Local or easily commutable to JB Andrews/DC region
> 1500 hrs total
> 500 hrs PIC
Majority of the hours FW time
14 yrs time in service or less
Mid-level O-4 or junior

-Actively flying with no or very little break in service

The next Pilot Selection Board for VR-53 is planned for 19 November 15 with packages due about a month prior.  This ad will be updated when the official hiring message is released.
